So I have been working on the Mad Max Mech and thus far I have the engine and cockpit pretty far along. I don't want to say they are completely done because odds are things will change. I wish I had Marmoset Toolbag so I can take nice renders, but these will have to do:
I am having issues because I don't feel like the engine and the cockpit go very well together. I have a hunch that I will end up re-doing the engine completely to look more like a junkyard build. All comments and critiques are welcomed and encouraged, check back for later updates...

Looking pretty good overall, very cool concept art you found. I think the vehicle in the concept is a minivan front end like a Pontiac or something and yours looks to be a truck, all the better to make it your own. Are these supposed to be the high or just the low? Are you planning on doing a high if these are the low? The engine doesn't scream "engine" to me, it is missing that overall basic look to it. Doing a quick search for "engine" on google it seems the reoccurring theme in all of them is pipes from one section to another, fairly thick piping all in line with itself leading to another part of the engine.
ReplyAnyways there's your crit, you asked for it :)
Yeah, I didn't like the rounded edges of the van so I went with more of the boxy 'pedophile' van haha. Right now it's kind of a mid-poly, nothing too in depth yet, but not as low as it could be. I am gonna go back over everything once it's done and do a detail pass and then re-topo. I was concerned the pipes in standard engines would get cluttered with the roll cage. But your right, I have been having second thoughts on that engine since I started haha. Thanks for the input bro!
ReplyNo problem, your recent work looks really great, the gun model below this one is real nice and smooth, looks like it would fit right in with the borderlands universe.
